Rural properties need a different approach

Plenty of houses out in the county are on oil, LPG or a private water supply, and a mains only plumber is no use to you at midnight. I work on tank fed and unvented systems as well as standard mains gas.

Frost damage is the big one out here. Exposed pipework in unheated outbuildings, loft tanks with no lagging, and outside taps left on through a cold snap. I will lag and protect the vulnerable runs while I am there so it does not happen again.

What I carry on the van

Standard copper and plastic fittings, valves, isolators, common boiler spares, a magnetic filter and enough to make almost any leak safe on the first visit.

If the fault needs a manufacturer specific part, I get it on order the same day and tell you exactly when I am back.

How far into Northumberland do you travel?

Day to day I work the south east of the county and the coast. For emergencies I will travel further, and I will tell you on the phone if travel time makes it sensible to try someone closer.

Do you work on oil and LPG systems?

I work on LPG as a Gas Safe registered engineer, and on the plumbing and heating side of oil systems. For an oil burner service you need an OFTEC engineer, and I will point you at one.

My pipes have frozen. What should I do?

Turn the water off, open the taps, and warm the pipe gently with a hairdryer or towels soaked in hot water. Never use a naked flame. Ring me if you think a pipe has split.
