Amy's old combi had too many faults to keep repairing, so replacing it was the cheaper option. The new boiler went into the loft, which meant fitting a solid floor base for safe working and maintenance, plus a loft ladder to comply with the new regulations for servicing.
The existing combi was throwing fault after fault. Once we added up the cost of further repairs and the risk of it failing over winter, a new boiler was the more economical choice. We went with a Baxi combi sized to the property and hot water demand.
Installing a boiler in a loft means more than just hanging it on the wall. I built a solid floor base underneath the new boiler so it can be worked on safely and serviced properly in future. I also fitted a loft ladder to give safe, easy access for annual servicing and any maintenance.
The old system was flushed before the new boiler was connected, inhibitor was added, and the boiler was commissioned and gas rated. I ran through the controls with Amy, registered the warranty in her name and notified the installation to Gas Safe.
