I am in Newcastle most weeks doing the everyday plumbing that keeps a house running: leaks traced and repaired, radiators moved, taps and toilets sorted, and full first fix pipework when a kitchen or bathroom is being stripped out. You deal with me directly from the first call to the finished job.
If you are having a kitchen or bathroom refitted, the first fix is the part that decides how well the finished room works. I run the hot, cold and waste pipework to suit the new layout, set out the tails for sinks, appliances and showers, and pressure test everything before the floor goes down and the units go in.
A recent kitchen job in the city is a good example: full first fix throughout, a radiator moved onto a better wall, and a leaking gas pipe found and repaired while the floor was up. You can read it on the projects page.
Most of my Newcastle work is the unglamorous stuff done properly: stop taps that will not turn, leaking waste pipes, tired taps and valves, radiators that need moving or replacing, and pipework that has been bodged over the years and finally given up.
The older terraces around Jesmond, Heaton and Fenham still have plenty of lead and old iron pipework in them, and the Tyneside flats across Byker and Walker have long pipe runs under floors, so leaks often show up a room away from the source. I trace them properly rather than pulling floors up on a guess.
I quote before I start and the price does not change unless we find something neither of us knew about. If a job throws up a surprise, like the leaking gas pipe on the kitchen job, I show you, explain the options and agree the cost before I touch it.
I protect floors and worktops, I tidy up at the end of every day, and I do not disappear halfway through a job to start someone else's.
Every job is different, so these are guide figures rather than a quote. You always get one fixed written price after I have seen the work.
Tell me what you need and I will come and look at it. You get the price before I start.
